Walk In Light

1 John 1:6–7 says, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

This shows that you cannot claim to walk in the light while living in darkness. If you are willingly walking in darkness, the truth is not within you.

Now, if that stirred something in you, that’s conviction—and that’s okay. Conviction = correction, and correction leads to transformation when you’re open to it.

Walking in the light calls you to actually practice what the Lord has told us to do—and not do. James 1:22 reminds us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Don’t just read your Bible—live it.

When you walk in the light as God is in the light, you come into agreement with the blood of Jesus and are cleansed from all sin. And 1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

I know this can be a tough pill to swallow, but let me break it down.

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This connects two things that go hand in hand: repentance and walking in the light.

Repentance is not just asking for forgiveness—it’s turning away from your flesh-filled, sinful ways, seeking Christ, and choosing Him daily.

Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…”

Repentance is transformation.

Repentance without a change in action or character is not true repentance. It’s like being in a relationship with someone who says sorry for breaking your heart, only to keep doing it over and over again. Would you accept that?

Repentance is a choice to change. It’s a 180-degree turn in your lifestyle—not a 360 that brings you right back to where you started.

The reason walking in the light goes hand in hand with repentance is because walking in the light means walking in righteousness and holiness. It means following the correction and direction of Jesus.

Again, 1 John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light…”

You have to look at how Jesus walked, because He is the Light. John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

To walk in the light is to walk in His steps. That’s why walking in the light is transformative—it goes against our flesh, our natural instincts, and our default reactions.

Walking in the light means you strive to walk like Jesus, talk like Jesus, and think like Jesus. Not perfectly—but intentionally.

Walking in the light is intentional. It requires self-reflection and a willingness to change.

Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Nothing in this world will ever fill that God-sized hole or satisfy that deep yearning for something more. The missing piece isn’t a thing—it’s Jesus.

Don’t walk in darkness. James 4:4 reminds us that friendship with the world is enmity with God. Those who choose to live in darkness are choosing to stand against Him.

Choose the light. Choose Jesus.

If you’re choosing Him, pray this:

Heavenly Father, help me to walk in true repentance and in You. Convict me, correct me, and guide me. I surrender to Your will and Your way. Teach me to walk in the light. I welcome transformation. I welcome the renewing of my mind and heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
